Lynn A. BowersPrincipalLynn Bowers’ work spans the range of the firm’s ERISA practice on behalf of employee benefit plans and includes experience in related aspects of the Internal Revenue Code. Ms. Bowers has extensive experience in employee benefit plan design and implementation, including pension plan design and qualification issues, health plan design and related issues, plan administration and claims and appeals processing, taxation, HIPAA compliance, as well as fiduciary and investment issues. She has performed exhaustive legal reviews of pension, health, and other types of employee benefit plans. Ms. Bowers assists clients with matters involving the Internal Revenue Service, such as requests for determination of tax-exempt status and has represented clients in IRS audits and Department of Labor investigations. Ms. Bowers has experience in transactional work, including mergers of both health and welfare and pension plans. She has assisted Taft-Hartley funds after trusteeship of the local union that co-sponsors the fund. As a result, she has gained extensive experience in resolving administrative problems of troubled funds. Ms. Bowers has been involved in a number of private-equity investment transactions and has advised clients regarding the private-placement memorandum, limited partnership agreements and required representations in connection with these types of investment arrangements. She has assisted unions in establishing benefit plans for their members not funded by employer contributions. Ms. Bowers has litigated cases before the National Labor Relations Board, numerous federal district courts, and the First and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeals. Ms. Bowers graduated from Antioch University with a bachelor’s degree in labor studies in 1990. She graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994, where she was a member of the journal, Law & Policy in International Business. She received the ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Employment Law and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Ms. Bowers is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia, the United States Courts of Appeal for the First, Fourth, and Sixth Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States. |
